The following are conceptual drawings of the Carolina Business Interiors future satellite showroom in downtown Durham. CBI is a contract furniture company that is an exclusive dealership of Knoll furniture. Throughout the history of Knoll there has been classic and timeless pieces that are iconic in today's society. For example, the Barcelona chair, a masterpiece of Mies Van Der Rohe has been a symbol you see in movies, television, and some of the most elite spaces in the world. Knoll creates an impression and it is CBI's mission to make it a lasting impression. Through the design of the space it is important to portray the history of Knoll, while exemplifying the true beauty and functionality that it is known for. The concept for this space is Little Footprint, Big Impression. While the space offers a small footprint in downdown Durham, the mission is to create a long lasting impression on it's clients. Initially, the intention was to play off of the 1930's classic Hollywood style to help portray the era of Knoll's beginnings while catching snapshots of Knoll's history thoughout. The building wants to tell the story of Knoll and CBI wants to be the business that does this. From this foundation, the design has grown into so much more.
